Tell the three orders apart

All three arrive as funeral orders, which is exactly why they get confused. The colour rule is the distinguishing line:

OrderCustomerColour ruleStyle rowsDocumented route
Flamboyant FuneralPrudenceAvoid blackGlamour / ElegantSweetheart bodice, flounce sleeve, mermaid skirt; velvet with white lace
Fierce Funeral—Use only blackFormal / Gothic / ProfessionalElevated sweetheart, pointed collar, flounce sleeve, professional skirt; Black Corduroy or Wool Pinstripes
Respectful FuneralMarieBlack at least 50%Formal / Simple / ElegantHeart princess bodice without sleeves, bias-cut or apron skirt; Onyx Black Silk as the main fabric
The three funeral orders side by side; the colour rule is what separates them, not the occasion.

“Funeral means black” is the trap: it is wrong for one order, an only-rule for another, and a share for the third. Players report Prudence sending black dresses back on her early funeral order.

Flamboyant Funeral: avoid black

Prudence's order asks for Glamour and Elegant with black avoided. The documented route is a sweetheart bodice, flounce sleeves and a mermaid skirt, using velvet to carry Glamour and Elegant with white lace worked in. The documented example below is exactly that silhouette in pink and white — nothing about this order forces dark colours just because the occasion is a funeral.

Fierce Funeral: only black

Fierce Funeral is the strict one: use only black, with Formal, Gothic and Professional style rows — a documented card for this order shows the markers at Formal 40, Gothic 25 and Professional 50 alongside Quality 75. The documented route is an elevated sweetheart bodice, pointed collar, flounce sleeve and professional skirt in Black Corduroy or Wool Pinstripes. “Only” is checked per fabric entry, so every fabric on the dress needs the black tag.

One documented caution: the walkthrough at one point suggests a black-and-white polka linen by name. A fabric's display name does not prove its colour tags — a black-and-white print may not count as black for an only-rule. Open the item card and confirm the actual colour tag before you buy.

Respectful Funeral: black share

Marie's order asks for black at least 50% with Formal, Simple and Elegant rows. “At least 50%” is a floor, not a target to hit exactly: the documented route makes Onyx Black Silk the main fabric — a heart princess bodice without sleeves and a bias-cut or apron skirt — so the black share clears half the dress with margin. The walkthrough also lists one-shoulder and elevated sweetheart alternatives.

Two ways this order fails: treating the share as “exactly half” and under-buying, or adding a small black accent over a light dress and finding the share barely moves. The colour share follows how much of the dress the fabric covers, so the main panels do the work.

Before delivery

  1. Confirm the order name on the card — Flamboyant, Fierce or Respectful — and apply only that order's colour rule.
  2. Check the style rows for your order: Glamour/Elegant, Formal/Gothic/Professional and Formal/Simple/Elegant are three different sets.
  3. For only-black, inspect every fabric's colour tag; for the black share, confirm the share row has reached its marker.
  4. Finish, photograph and choose Complete Commission — the delivery guide separates that button from Sell dress and Gift Dress.
