Rose's first work dress

This is a concrete first commission rather than a free design. The shown sketchbook page says “Rose needs a dress for work” and lists Quality 60, Professional 40 and Budget 200. Start with the fabrics you already own instead of spending on a new bolt before checking the draft.

The example selects Princess Bodice, Peter Pan Collar, Peasant Sleeve and Straight Long Skirt, with an approximate 2.77 m fabric requirement. Professional is already 60/40 in the draft, while Quality is only 20/60. The inventory includes 3 m each of Cool Grey Linen and Charcoal Cotton. View full screenshot.

Measure, then choose the pattern

  1. Take Rose's bust, waist and hip measurements during the first measuring step. Use the tape carefully rather than copying another player's numbers as your own result.
  2. Choose Princess Bodice, Peter Pan Collar, Peasant Sleeve and Straight Long Skirt as the pictured starting pattern. The walkthrough also suggests pencil or princess skirt alternatives; check their Professional contribution and fabric requirement before changing.
  3. Use the existing Cool Grey Linen to support Professional, then read the draft's bar and approximate fabric requirement before cutting.
  4. Choose Draft Pattern, then adjust the mannequin to Rose's body measurements for this dress before cutting and sewing. On later dresses, loading saved body measurements and adjusting the mannequin remain two separate steps.

The Professional draft score is a useful early check. If it remains below 40, revisit the selected pattern or fabric tags now; good sewing later is not a substitute for choosing a professional design.

Cut and sew the first dress

Place and cut the chosen pieces with their grain aligned, then sew each seam carefully. Quality changes during making, so the early 20/60 in the sketchbook is not a finished-dress verdict. Check the completed dress's Quality row before assuming the green Professional row means the whole order is ready.

The example's finished look uses grey main panels with a dark collar and sleeves. This photo has no requirements sidebar; use it to recognise the shape, and use your own card to judge Professional and Quality. View full screenshot.

If a cut piece goes wrong, use the recycle and recut workflow before continuing. While a piece is still on the sewing machine, R resets that current piece. Once a piece is attached to the dress, repair follows the unpick-and-recycle route instead.

Finish the commission

  1. Professional at least 40 and final Quality at least 60.
  2. The order remains within its 200-gold budget; check your own card and spending rather than the example's wallet.
  3. Finish the dress and take the photo.
  4. Choose Complete Commission to deliver Rose's order. Sell and Gift Dress serve different purposes.
